ABSTRACT

The WB feature type analyses suggest that semantic memory is organised by type of knowledge. This view coheres with recent evidence from neuroimaging studies suggesting that the semantic attributes of objects are stored close to the regions of the cortex that mediate their perception (Martin et al., 1995; Mummery, Patterson, Hodges, & Price, 1998; Thompson-Schill et al., 1999). Note that we are not arguing that each of the 28 WB feature types is represented in a different brain region. Rather, the taxonomy developed by Wu and Barsalou (2002) captures important facts regarding the organisation of semantic memory in the mind and brain.
