False Tears over a Dead Bird

To some extent, it is a familiar scene. Many children lose pets they adore. I can still remember finding our family’s pet parakeet dead in its cage one morning. I looked at it for a minute, thinking it might suddenly spring up and start flying around, and then I opened the cage and took it out gingerly, and held it in my hands. This girl must have done the same, and I can imagine how she cupped the little bird in her hands and began to cry.
