ABSTRACT
People higher up — managers and politicians — see us as troublemakers, and the working class think we've got a good job and are on to a good thing. It's to do with ignorance of what the job is. The TV and papers serve up an impression of us plotting the next revolution. But we're not. Most of our work is of a social nature, dealing with individuals' problems. They've only the union to turn to. I do feel people have the wrong impression of unions and union officers. One day somebody ought to take a really good look at union people — not only the ones who are always being projected forward. There's too much emphasis on top people. When did you last see a second-level union man putting his views forward? There are people full time other than top officials.
