ABSTRACT
When Sweden on Sunday, 13 November 1994 voted ‘Yes’ to European Union (EU) accession, a turning point was reached in the nation’s history. The issue of European integration had been on the political agenda for over 30 years and yet, for the majority of that period Swedish accession seemed very unlikely.
