ABSTRACT

Its ten chapters cover medico-legal matters, housing, children, crime, wills and probate, immigration, employment, prisons and prisoners’ rights, insurance and the legal issues concerning voluntary organisations. All the contributors are advisers, or have advised, at The Terrence Higgins Trust in London. For this reason it reflects the legal experience in England and Wales, and not necessarily in Scotland or Northern Ireland where the law can be different. The Terrence Higgins Trust Advice Centre is the largest and longest-established specialist centre providing legal, welfare rights and housing advice in the UK. There is a full-time staff of eight (including two solicitors) and over fifty dedicated volunteers who provide free and confidential advice and representation to affected individuals on all the areas concerned in this book and many others.
