ABSTRACT
Introduction Over the past decade there has been increasing recognition of and interest in preschool provision. The changing role and status of women, the increase in the numbers of single-parent families, and the economic, environmental, and social pressures that impinge upon the quality of family life have all contributed to push the provision of services for small children and their families to the forefront of public debate.
