ABSTRACT
Any political party committed to maintaining the institutions of the political system within which it operates cannot but share and apply the values of that system practically. Such a simple statement takes on a specific meaning in modern Italy: because the whole postwar system has functioned on institutional corruption, patronage and nepotism, none of the minor or potentially progressive forces, either within or outside government, can be immune to the system’s values.
