ABSTRACT

In 1979 the funding base of the anti-rape movement in California changed dramatically when new legislation created a regular source of funding for rape crisis centers through the California Office of Criminal Justice Planning (OCJP). Small grants had been available through the Department of Social Services a year before, but until this legislation there had been no commitment to ongoing funding. The new appropriation propelled many centers from shoestring operations to full-fledged social service agencies.
