ABSTRACT
Alcohol misuse affects sexual and reproductive function in men and women; in chronic alcohol abusers the damage can become irreversible. Prolonged alcohol excess causes over-secretion of cortisol from the adrenal glands. It disturbs the control of blood sugar and in diabetic persons taking insulin it can cause severe and prolonged depression of the blood sugar level with irreversible brain damage.
