LIGHTS IN AUTUMN

In Worktown the millworker's day is planned by the mill owner, and even in Blackpool, where he is on holiday, the landlady orders his time. But Blackpool gives him full opportunity to make a change, if only by lengthening his day. In Worktown the day's entertainment comes to an end at 10:30 when the pubs have closed and the cinemas are emptying, but at the same time in Blackpool there is still another ninety minutes to spare for pleasure. This is one of the things which the resort's caterers encourage.
