ABSTRACT

It’s only mildly surprising that Laurie Anderson has made a commercial. Though she scored the music for a spot in Reebok’s first TV campaign, there’s nothing 8 mm, slo-mo, or ‘avant-garde’ about it. To her dodge-’em car sound effects, people walk as if they’re driving-in quick, short steps, a group of black leather types skid on their ‘cycles’; a chauffeur-driven ‘limo’ carries execs chatting on cellular phones. At the end, her familiar cool voice says, to standard voiceover rhythm: ‘Reebok walking shoes. Your mileage may vary.’
