Introduction

This section brings together four essays which discuss the interconnections of ethnicity, gender, sexuality and class within areas of contemporary cultural politics. They cover misrepresentations of Black women in Euro-American film, lesbian discourse and inter-textuality through a reading of African-American and Caribbean works, the survival of the Black woman artist within art schools and the relation between African women’s lives and their representation in modern African literature.
