ABSTRACT

Amid concerns over the safety of vaccinations and ill-effects of antibiotics, many parents are critical of orthodox medicine and are becoming more open to using complementary approaches for their children. Reasons for this may include the perception that CAM is generally safer and has fewer side effects than orthodox medicine. CAM therapies are perceived as being particularly helpful in treating children suffering from chronic and environmentally-induced conditions, such as asthma, eczema and allergies. Parents of children using CAM for these conditions have often exhausted conventional routes before turning to CAM as a last resort.
