ABSTRACT
A baby’s crying. His parents wake up. They’re tired but they pick him up and comfort him. Does this prove babies have social intelligence and ‘know’ crying will make their parents hug them? Or is it just that the human newborn is innately ‘wired’ to cry? It’s just a reflex. Twoyear-olds certainly know if they cry, good parents will give them attention.
