ABSTRACT

Give each group of between four and five children a scenario (e.g. baby rescued from burning house, refugees caught entering Britain, racist attack on young girl, new electric car unveiled, councillors agree local bypass to be built). Each group then acts out their scenario, observed by the others who are all ‘reporters’ and make notes on what they see. Groups then take it in turns to present one of the scenarios they observed as an early evening news bulletin (using a large frame to represent the TV). One member of the group is the news reader. The rest of the class (and the original actors) comment on how fair and accurate this depiction was, referring to their ‘reporters’ notes. The process is repeated until all scenarios have been presented as news bulletins and discussed.
