Put the class into groups of between four and six. Explain that they are all detectives and they must use the clues in front of them to answer the question: Why is Ranjesh’s mum crying? Explain that, as happens in reality, there may be some statements which are not relevant to the case. Allow them to work for about 10 minutes in groups, then draw them together (use the whistle if needed) and ask if they can solve the mystery.The answer you are looking for at this stage is that Ranjesh is dead so she is upset.
