ABSTRACT

Give each pair of participants a set of the statements. Ask them to discuss and then place each card in turn at an agreed point along the continuum. Then explain that having placed their cards they must decide (as a pair) where to ‘draw the line’. In other words they must decide at which point on the continuum they will put an X to indicate that all actions to the left are acceptable, and those to the right are unacceptable. (Participants can use a slip of paper in the same colour as their set of cards to do this, or put their initials on a slip of paper and use this.)

Then bring together the whole group and discuss where people ‘drew the line’ and why, and which statements caused the most dissension or discussion. Ask pairs to justify/defend their decisions.
