ABSTRACT
The central point of this chapter is that the ambiguity displayed by (1) between an I and S interpretation has a grammatical basis. In particular, (1) is derivable from two different kinds of small clauses, involving two different kinds of predication structures. Underlying a II is a small clause such as (3a). SIs derive from small clauses like (3b).
