A task of narrative

Narrative is, I have suggested in several chapters above, one of the mosteffective responses to the failings of memory. Not any kind of narrative mind you. There is narrative and narrative. For while some stories congeal and incarcerate, others loosen and emancipate. And it is important to know the difference. Once again, at the limits of the tellable, we encounter the need to discern between different modes of telling.
