ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to examine the potential impact of the conceptual framework on coach education. It is less about the nuts and bolts of coach education programmes and more about how the principles on which coach education and training are based need to be informed by a conceptual understanding of the coaching process. Three issues related to the professionalisation of sports coaching are particularly influenced by a developed appreciation of the coaching process: evaluation/effectiveness, education and research. It is no coincidence that these form the substance of the final three chapters of the book.
