ABSTRACT

University use of new information technologies raises a number of legal issues – from the need to protect institutional identity on the Web, to ownership of Web-based courses, to surveillance of faculty and student communications via campus networking infrastructure – that are of constitutional status in the United States. While constitutional law will certainly not be the only factor determining the ultimate resolution of such issues, it does provide a context within which economic, social, political, organizational and other factors will play themselves out.
