ABSTRACT

During the past decades, we have witnessed profound changes in economy, technology, society and, consequently, at work. New kinds of jobs are created and traditional occupations are transformed. In Sweden, the developments in the so-called new economy and the ‘old’ economy are widely discussed, and what seem to cause astonishment are the effects the developments have on people as employees. Both stress statistics (e.g. Wingborg 2000) and public discussion reveal an almost epidemic stress phenomenon. It seems that we are creating a world where quite a few of us will not be able to live happy, productive lives.
