ABSTRACT

Creating networks to enhance competitiveness and sustain the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is at the heart of this chapter. ‘Network’ is used to describe a new form of arrangements between entities. Network, as we understand it, represents a highly elaborated, but flexible system of interrelationships among associates in different geographical locations, held together by personal connections and with the help of communication technology. Associates are any external individual, group, organization, institution or nation that can contribute to the firm’s success (Kilmann and Kilmann 1991).
