ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter I wish to consider briefly where housing finance policy seems to be heading over the next few years. Of course, much of this discussion is speculative. One of the consequences of taking a political approach is that one must be aware of the unforeseen. I am not suggesting that I am capable of seeing into the future. Rather I am confident that the unexpected will occur and that this will dramatically alter the direction of policy. Governments lose elections, economies nosedive into recession and households have the bad manners to do what governments don’t want them to do. Any or all of these could blow the government’s policies off course.
