ABSTRACT

Pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) have usually had something go wrong for them when they were younger learners. They may also have suffered trauma in their earlier lives within the family which has affected the critical relationship with key adults at an important time in the learning process. They may have had an illness or physical impairment as a very young child that set them behind their peer group. Whatever the problem, I believe that learning is a deeply emotional experience and that a key to successful learning is the development of secure emotional/intellectual relationships between a child and key adults. If something spoils this for whatever reason, the damage is very hard to reverse later in the school career.
