ABSTRACT

In this chapter, early childhood education research over the last ten or so years will be reviewed. The review will be located within the broader context of radical educational and higher educational change. In fact, in this period, few aspects of education – management, governance and funding, the curriculum and assessment, teaching and learning in schools, colleges and universities or the role of parents – have been left untouched by politicians or unexamined by educational researchers. Such unprecedented educational change has provided a huge stimulus to research on policy and practice.
