ABSTRACT

The 18th Winter Olympics were held in Nagano in 1998. After the various difficulties that had marred the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, the IOC seemed greatly relieved at the efficiency and problem-free execution of these games and was open in its praise of the Japanese organising committee. Japanese television audiences for the games increased by 50 per cent over previous winter Olympics and the dedication of Japanese audiences both at home and at the Olympic sites was rewarded with five gold medals for their team, the most gold won in winter Olympics by Japan.
