ABSTRACT

Compensatory education for the disadvantaged is, of necessity, one of the guiding principles in all special schools and those teachers who have experienced the effect of music on the lives of special needs children will surely appreciate the validity of Dobbs’s statement and the potential power there is in music education to effect change and bring relief to damaged lives. Unfortunately, however, the situation at the present time is that if special schools are able to offer their children an adequate music education, they are exceptional.
