1843 explorer John C.Fremont camps near here; 1863 ll covered wagons on Oregon Trail attacked by Native Americans at Massacre Rocks to southwest, nine killed; 1883 Union Pacific Railroad reaches site; 1888 town founded; 1904 bridge built on Snake River, later flooded by dam; 1906 incorporated as a city; 1913 Power County formed; town becomes county seat; 1927 American Falls Reservoir formed on Snake River; town relocated; county courthouse built.
