was established June 4, 1812. Missouri was admitted as the 24th state August 10, 1821. In 1837, the Platte Purchase was added to the northwestern corner of Missouri. The government of Gov. Claiborne Jackson was exiled by the pro-Union legislature July, 1861. The act of secession passed by the “Rebel Legislature” October 28, 1861, was ineffective.
