ABSTRACT
This section discusses other communication technologies, specifically Frame Relay. It compares the basic operations of Frame Relay to the basic operations of VPNs. Several arguments are made in favor of VPN technology over conventional Frame Relay technology. Several design options are explained and compared to Frame Relay, and advantages over Frame Relay are explored at the expense of the Frame Relay technology. Many arguments can be made in defense of Frame Relay, but the reality is that Frame Relay provides enough similarity to VPNs to accommodate the explanation of new VPN concepts. Frame Relay is the communication of choice of millions of companies worldwide and accommodates the communication requirements. However, this presents an alternate view of communications and how they relate to business activities.
