ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the main methods Photoshop artists use to fix their images, so the readers can decide which they need in each situation. Photoshop is awash with adjustment tools. Photoshop allows the readers to customize keyboard shortcuts, and it’s well worth assigning a custom shortcut to this feature, since it’s likely to be one they’ll use on almost every image they open. There are many ways of adjusting images in Photoshop — Levels, Brightness & Contrast, Hue & Saturation, Color Balance. The levels adjustment has long been favored by photographers for its control set, based around a histogram that shows the make-up of tones in the image. The ability to select broad color ranges has been in the Hue/Saturation adjustment for a long time. The fact that each Adjustment Layer comes with a built-in Layer Mask means that we can paint adjustments in and out exactly where we want them.
