ABSTRACT

In the last chapter we saw the Church was no longer Catholic, but divided into the Eastern and Western segments. Skipping ahead some 400 years, we find ourselves at a very low point in the history of the Roman or Western church. The Protestant Reformation is covered in Chapter 9, and we shall see that it was an attempt to repair or maybe salvage what was left of a profoundly corrupt fifteenth century Catholic Church. However, it is wrong to think that the Catholic Church remained in the sad state that it found itself in during Luther's time. To fully appreciate the modern Catholic Church we need to look at two final historical events; the council of Trent and Vatican II.
