Making Ordinary Human Experience Extraordinary: Chris Landreth

In 1975, Martin Newell was a computer graphics researcher at the University of Utah who created a 3D computer model of an ordinary teapot as a means of providing a scene and lighting setup. Nowadays, the Utah teapot is a sort of “in-joke” in the CG community, and teapot models are paid homage to in movies like Toy Story, which was released in 1995 and is the first full-length computer generated film. Currently, teapot models are included in high-end professional CG software as default modeling and texturing references.
