The Halfway Point to Reality: Bob Sabiston
Director Richard Linklater’s 2001 feature film Waking Life was lauded for its unusual plot structure and groundbreaking animation. The fluid interpolated shapes of Sabiston’s rotoscoping technique were a perfect match for the film’s philosophical, rambling dream world. Sabiston worked with a team of 30 artists in Linklater’s office building for a year to create the film’s animation. Waking Life premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically in October 2001.
