ABSTRACT

Digital audio has taken the worry out of having to physically deliver or ship a master tape of the band's hit songs at the mercy of the carrier. To fully understand digital audio technology, reader needs to understand how, when, and why people ended up digitizing audio. Digital technology opened up recording to the masses. Many extraordinary people contributed to the modern era of recording. Legendary engineers such as Les Paul, Tom Dowd, and Bill Putnam shaped the audio world as people know it. Analog gear can be purchased in the form of FX processors, amplifiers, keyboards, tape machines, compressors, audio production consoles, and other electronic components. Digital audio translates the alphabet, base 10 numbers, and other types of information into 1s and 0s, on/off voltage. The two main differences between lossy and lossless audio files are storage space and audio quality. Most commercial audio software has Musical Instrument Digital Interface integration.
