ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at some editing tools and techniques to make the process of editing as efficient as it can be. Locking Events and dragging out end frames is a useful way to create a longer fade-out on a frame. Editors who become camera operators quickly learn to hold the camera steady at the end of a scene. The computer must have a 10-key device on the keyboard. Laptops that have 10-key settings via a numpad feature can work, but it’s very clumsy and gets in the way of other editing shortcuts and functions. Ripple editing enables users to cut Events and clips from the timeline without leaving holes behind. This is a very useful function, but in the hands of new users or those unfamiliar with rippling, it can also create headaches. Post edit ripples involve an additional keystroke, but they also allow for a pause to consider which type of ripple should be implemented.
