More than any other film, Avatar has shaped and continues to shape audience perception about what 3D means. James Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi epic produced by Lightstorm Entertainment and distributed by 20th Century Fox—for many viewers, their first look at live action digital 3D—went on to gross more than $2.8 billion at the global box office and scoop many accolades including Oscars for visual effects, cinematography, and art direction.
