ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews how federal, state and local governments protect critical infra-structure. Also discussed is the outsized role of the private sector in protecting infrastruc-ture. Include is a detailed description of the 16 critical infrastructure sectors (e.g. Energy Sector, Waterways Sector, Transportation Sector) and the overarching sector framework’s role in furthering critical infrastructure policy development. Sidebars on the “Internet of Things” and the Urban Areas Security Initiative as well as an interview with critical infra-structure expert and former Secret Service Deputy Director Mark Camillo, provide addi-tional context.
