ABSTRACT

Looking back, has the project succeeded in its purpose? Yes and no. Marrying the complexities of real-life police decision-making with the philosophical challenges of practical reasoning is likely to leave both decision makers and philosophical theorists feeling somewhat shortchanged. That said, we need to appreciate that the divisions of labor (theoretical and practical) to which we have succumbed need to be bridged on both sides. High though the demand might be, we must submit our reflections and decision-making to a public that has every reason to hold us accountable.
