ABSTRACT
This chapter contains an in-depth analysis of the arguments in favour of bans on the wearing of religious symbols that are encountered in all the debates currently taking place in most European countries and beyond, as well as an examination of the counterarguments. The chapter provides a clear insight into both sides of each argument and will assist people in gaining an understanding of the reasons why many states are proposing legislative bans on certain forms of religious symbols and attire.
