ABSTRACT

When Rabindranath Tagore and Albert Einstein met in 1930 at the latter’s home, a discussion ensued which is relevant even today. The topic of contention between Tagore and Einstein is whether the universe is an absolute reality separate from human perception. This chapter aims to elaborate and make explicit the two distinct conceptions of reality present in the worldview of each. Tagore bases the existence of the world on human truths, while Einstein perceives a universal, impersonal reality. What follows is a conversation that is replete with meaning and timeless relevance.
