ABSTRACT

The scenario leading the pack is that of a hybrid solution where organizational computing is done with a mix of more traditional private clouds to handle on-demand surges into the public cloud based upon business rules. The monkey wrench in the works is simply put, latency and jitter over the distances between the cloud data centers. Expecting to be able to transfer a fresh virtual machine or cloud app over the wide area network fast enough to meet surge demand isn’t reality quite yet. The increase in cloud infrastructure and network complexity has been accompanied by a trend in the information technology (IT) industry toward a more specialized and compartmentalized work force. Self-service copies of entire systems have made the process even easier since, in the case of the software-defined networking inside modern cloud systems, IT professionals can literally create and run an exact system copy, right down to the networking infrastructure.
