ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to explore how some Iranian researchers and scholars, especially from conservative camps, have criticised the works of Orientalists dealing with the Qurʾān published both prior to and since the Islamic revolution of 1979. To do so we refer to some of the conferences held in Tehran and Qom, as well as to papers published in scholarly Iranian journals about Orientalism. In this chapter we suggest that many of the criticisms raised by conservative Iranian scholars of the post-revolutionary era with regards to Orientalism echo the criticisms put forward by other scholars such as Edward Said, Parvez Manzoor and Mozaffar Iqbal.
