ABSTRACT

GA3-mediated α-amylase synthesis in de-embryonated Avena fatua endosperm halves and in excised embryos with attached scutella, was influenced by the concentration of exogenous saccharides included in the incubation medium. The inclusion of low concentrations of mono- and disaccharides resulted in a stimulation of α-amylase synthesis, but higher concentrations of these sugars inhibited synthesis. The possibility of saccharides being involved in the control of α-amylase synthesis and dormancy is discussed.
