ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we contextualize and analyze various practices, types of strategic planning, and methodologies related to transmedia dynamics in education. We ponder that educational transmedia facilitates human interaction and helps students to participate in and create their own learning processes by developing stories, games, and relevant activities, such as exploration of local artistic manifestations as learning objects. In our understanding (and based on our experience applying multiplatform communication precepts in support of education in low-income communities in East Timor, Mozambique, and Brazil), we propose to think in terms of transmediality beyond digital environments and to consider the possibilities of each audience and its available channels. The theoretical framework of the chapter is based on transmedia education and transmedia literacy concepts. In addition, we refer to seminal authors in pedagogy, educommunication, and semiotics. The aim of our research in the transmedia education realm is to create educational actions across multiple platforms, integrating online and off-line dynamics and highlighting the engagement and participation of the school community.
