ABSTRACT
The authors enumerates some reasons which may have helped in preventing the western nations and their particular form of civilization form appealing to the oriental peoples. It is, naturally, in India where the contact of Islam with western education has been closest, that we see the clearest evidences of what may be described as a Liberal movement in Islam. A quite different history stands behind the sect known as the Ahmadiya which arose in the Pan jab, partly, perhaps, as a reaction against Christian missionary activity there, has spread through India, and extended its operations to England, Syria, and Egypt. The Sadr-Anjuman continues to be the controlling body of the Qadian party, and has shown great activity in educational work. Unfortunately, like most mission work, the Ahmadiya seems to suffer from the zeal of imprudent advocates who obviously base special pleading upon strained interpretations of history.
