ABSTRACT

Early in the second term of the occupation the political course of the campaign for Croxteth Comprehensive became set, with absolutely no ambiguity, in the direction of Labour Party politics. On the second day of the second term Ev Loftus and Ann Abercromby reappeared in the school. They came in to discuss matters concerning their own children, who were attending Croxteth Comprehensive, but afterwards asked some of the teachers if they could be of any use. ‘Gis a job,’ they said. They explained that they had greatly missed being involved in the occupation and would teach art or some other subjects, or help teachers in any way needed. After the crisis between Phil and Ev had been resolved, little opposition remained to the strategy worked out by Philip Knibb and Cyril D’Arcy. Many external barriers to the campaign’s success had been overcome by the second term as well.
