ABSTRACT

A joint study has been made by the Institute of Personnel Management and the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants. Effort is further modified by one’s capacities and inclinations and how one sees one’s work role in relation to others. Generalisation is really possible, because of differences between individuals, and because people always act logically and rationally in pursuit of their goals. Job evaluation analyses the human inputs brought to a job and the demands it makes upon the incumbent. It seeks to assemble this information in a logical manner so that comparative decisions can be made between jobs. The main conventional methods of job evaluation are based on either a quantitative or a qualitative assessment. Quantitative techniques are the elaborate, but are capable of producing more discriminating results. To the sceptic, job evaluation may appear as yet another mechanistic technique to regiment the work-force, or to present such a handful of problems as to be worth the candle.
