ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the importance of identifying lessons-to-be-learned as project managers go along, while they are fresh in their minds, and before their get distracted by the challenge or activity on their to-do list. In addition to project-specific risk information, project managers also gain wider insights into how to make risk management work better in their organisation and with their types of project. These insights might come too late to help us in their own project, but they might assist others, so that they build on our successes and don’t repeat our mistakes. Identifying risk-related lessons-to-be-learned will help both us and those who come after us, if we can turn our experience into specific advice or guidance. The benefits of this learning are so significant that we can’t afford to ignore this final step in the risk process.
